What is TB Control Project in Pakistan?

“Get back on track to end the TB epidemic by 2030.””
Introduction:
- Pakistan is ranked 5th among high burden countries in the world.
- The prevalence, incidence and mortality per 100,000 population per year for TB in Pakistan are 340, 259 and 20, respectively.
- The National Tuberculosis Control Program (NTP), revived under the Ministry of Health after the TB emergency was declared in Pakistan in 2001.
- Act as a collaborative body at the central level to develop coherent policies and strategies and facilitate donor relations at the national level.

- NTP is currently implementing a grant supported by the Global Fund through the Single Stream Financing Mechanism (SSF) as the main beneficiary.
Objectives:
- TB cases (all forms) reported by NTP per 100,000 population per year in Pakistan.
- Percentage of TB cases successfully treated among reported bacteriologically confirmed NTP cases in Pakistan.
- Number of TB cases consulted and tested for HIV co-infection at control sites in Pakistan.
- Number of cases enrolled and treated among estimated MDR-TB cases.
Key performance indicators:
- Increase the number of reported TB cases from 298,981 in 2013 to at least 420,000 by 2020 while maintaining a 91% treatment success rate.
- Reduce, by at least 5% per year by 2020, the prevalence of MDR-TB in TB patients who have never received any TB treatment.
- Strengthen programmatic and operational management capacity of the TB Control Program while increasing public sector support for TB control by 2020.
